Itinerary

Day 1: Ollantaytambo - Llactapata - Huayllabamba

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Ollantaytambo town by bus, where we will meet the local quechua porters. Then you will cross the Vilcanota River, having a magnificent view of the snowcapped mountains such as La Veronica (5,900m/19,000ft).

We will continue the trek admiring the Llactapata archaeological, and stopping at the Huayllabamba town for lunch. Today the hike will last about 7 hours.

Overnight at the campsite.

Day 2: Warmiwanusca

Today is the most demanding day of the trip; we will climb up through the first pass at 4,200 m/13,750 feet at Warmiwanusqa (dead woman's pass) from here it is possible to see the high peaks of the Andean range. We will climb 1.000 meters in 5 hours. Arriving at our camp, we will have lunch and dinner near Pacaymayu.

Day 3: Runkurakay - Sayacmarka - Puyupatamarca

After breakfast, we will walk through the valley of Pacaymayu to the famous archaeological site of Runquraqay. Then continue to the second pass of Sayaqmarka (Town in a Steep Place) and explore the nearby ruins. Next we will descend to the magnificent archaeological site of Phuyupatamarka (Cloud Level Town) .After lunch we will begin to descend to Winaywayna an interesting inca place.

Day 4: Wiñaywayna - Inti Punku - Machupicchu

Early wake up to see the sunrise over Machupicchu; many species of plants and a great variety of birds can be seen in this area ;orchids and hummingbirds are commonly found along this spectacular section of the trail. We continue down to visit the "Lost City of the Incas". Upon arrival in Machu Picchu, we will walk down to the entrance gate to drop off our bag packs.

Then you will have a guided tour of the citadel, visiting the Main Plaza, the Royal residence, the Temple of Three Windows, the Circular Tower and the Sacred Sun Dial . After the guided tour, you can enjoy an afternoon of self-exploration and discovery; later we will take the train back to Cusco .
